Privacy & children's data
ChildrenWhoCode is designed so that children can learn without giving away personal information.
Draft for the proof of concept
Who holds the account
Every account belongs to a parent or guardian aged 18 or over. Children never create accounts, enter an email address or set a password.
What we store about a child
- A nickname chosen by the parent (we suggest not using a full name).
- A cartoon avatar picked from our preset set. No photos.
- Their class or school stage (LKG-UKG up to Class 11-12), never a date of birth.
- Learning progress: activities completed, quiz scores, game stars and badges.
What we don't do
- No public profiles, leaderboards with names, or chat between users.
- No user-generated content is shared with other families.
- No advertising or selling of data.
- When the AI coding buddy is enabled, conversations are not stored; we only count how many hints were used each day to enforce limits.
Who can see a child's progress
The parent account that created the child profile, the student themself if a parent created a Senior sign-in for them, and ChildrenWhoCode staff whose role needs it (for example support). Every request is checked on our servers before any learning record is shown or changed, and staff changes are recorded in an audit log.
Senior student sign-ins
For Class 7 to 12, a parent can create a username and password for their child. No email address is collected for the student. We record when the parent gave consent, and the parent can change or remove the sign-in at any time.
Rewards and the Swag Store
XP and coins are recorded in a ledger linked to the child profile. Coins cannot be bought. Store requests need a parent's approval; delivery details will be requested from the parent only when real merchandise is offered.
AI study assistant
Questions are checked by a safety filter and obvious personal details are blocked before anything is sent to the AI provider. Conversations are not stored; we keep only a daily count to apply limits.
Website enquiries and analytics
- Enquiry forms collect an adult's name, email, optional phone number and, optionally, a child's class. We use them only to reply, and for updates only if you opt in.
- We count page visits without cookies that identify you. If you choose "Allow", a random ID is stored in your browser for 6 months to understand repeat visits.
- If you later create a parent account with the same email address, your enquiry is linked to that account.
Deleting data
Parents can delete a child profile at any time from the parent dashboard, which permanently removes that child's progress records.
